Service Description

Corporate Finance relies on the Principles of Accounting and its application in the real world to manage internal finances, track a company's performance for internal or investment purposes, and raising capital for firms. While it is majorly focused on analyzing the three financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement & Cash Flow Statement), it also incorporates theories of corporate finance, knowledge of financial instruments & interactions with different financial institutions. The skills required in Corporate Finance can be divided into 2 parts - Technical Skills : - Awareness of different industries, business models, financial instruments & institutions - Analyzing Financial Statements of companies - Preparing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint - Retrieving data from Financial Databases & Research Reports - Deep understanding of Valuation using different approaches such as absolute valuation, relative valuation & option based pricing models - Financial Modelling in Microsoft Excel - Data Visualization - Macros & VBA Soft Skills : - Communication skills (Written as well as verbal) - Analytical skills - Time Management While the technical skills are critical to secure a corporate finance role, they aren't sufficient. Across all companies especially Investment Banks, soft skills are given a lot of importance and it is often the deciding factor in interviews. In India, hiring for entry level IB roles at the leading investment banks is often through campus placements in a select set of Universities, B-Schools, Engineering colleges and qualifications like Actuarial Sciences or Chartered Accountancy. However, one can gain experience in a related field such as Equity Research and later switch to an IB role. Furthermore, networking plays a key role in securing IB roles off-campus or while switching companies. Apart from Investment Banking, these skills are required in Securities Research or Financial Analyst roles in Corporate Finance divisions of firms. Depending on the roles, the level of the skills required may differ, however spreadsheet modelling, knowledge of corporate finance and proficiency in communication are the requisite skills across roles and companies.
